Bridging Experience and Structure: Why Our SFIA Partnership Matters

LinkedIn

At Immersive Edge, we believe that the best way to learn is by doing. That belief underpins everything we create – from the structure of our business simulations to the way we work with organisations to solve real-world challenges. Over the last year, we’ve seen a meaningful shift as we introduced competency-based progression into our simulations. Teams no longer just complete a session – they grow in capability, and they can see that growth.

We’re excited to announce that we’ve taken the next step on that journey: Immersive Edge is now a SFIA Accredited Partner.

A Natural Alignment

SFIA (the Skills Framework for the Information Age) is the globally recognised framework for defining and managing professional skills. It provides a structured language for what people do at work – the skills they use, the levels they operate at, and the responsibilities they hold.

While SFIA is well-known in technical and digital roles, its structure applies just as powerfully to the behavioural and contextual capabilities that our simulations focus on: leadership, communication, collaboration, and decision-making in complex environments.

For us, becoming a SFIA partner isn’t about changing our approach – it’s about deepening and formalising it. Our simulations already enable people to experience what it feels like to lead under pressure, to break down silos, or to shift a team culture. Now, through SFIA, we can provide a shared framework to describe those capabilities and align them with recognised professional levels.

From Experience to Evidence

One of the biggest challenges in skills development – particularly in areas like team dynamics, culture, or leadership – is that progress is often hard to define. You know a team is working better, but how do you describe what changed? How do you capture the capabilities that made the difference?

Introducing a capability model into our simulations gave us a powerful way to measure and reflect on the skills that matter. Participants begin with a baseline and end with a tangible view of how they’ve developed. It’s competency-based, not just outcome-based.

With SFIA, we now have a common language to link those capabilities to industry standards. Participants and organisations can relate what happens in the simulation to the levels of responsibility and autonomy used in SFIA. That means clearer progression pathways, stronger development planning, and more confidence that the experience gained in our simulations translates to real-world value.

Enhancing Our Value Without Changing Our DNA

Our core value proposition remains the same:
We accelerate transformation across teams and organisations through experiential business simulations..

The SFIA partnership doesn’t replace that – it supports it:

      • By providing structure around the behavioural and contextual skills we already target.

      • By giving organisations a way to map simulation experiences to capability frameworks they may already be using.

      • And by reinforcing the message that experience isn’t separate from professional development – it is the foundation of it.

This is especially powerful for clients already using SFIA for role design, career progression, or capability planning. We can now help teams practise the very behaviours and decision-making responsibilities aligned to their target SFIA levels – in a safe, accelerated environment that simulates months of learning in a single day.

    Looking Ahead

We see this partnership as a step forward not just for us, but for the teams we support. It allows us to strengthen the bridge between learning and doing, and between insight and action. And as we continue to customise and adapt our simulations to address real-world challenges – from underperforming teams to cultural transformation – we’ll be doing so with an even clearer view of what good looks like.

If you’re working with SFIA – or want to see what it means to apply a capability framework in practice – we’d love to talk.
